Like I've mentioned before -- the kind of irrational hatred of Jews that David exhibits completely baffles me. I was brought up in an environment where someone's skin color or nationality was never used as justification for ill-will, and beyond that, my family valued the existence of Jews for their historical contributions toward the foundation of Western civilization (not to mention Christianity, for without Judaism, there would never have existed Chritianity).
I remember when I first learned about the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany, and I was, like, "Huh? How could this be possible in the 20th century?" It's as if the entire Jewish race has been transformed into the world's scapegoat. The concept of the scapegoat, if I'm remembering correctly, has its origins in an old ritual once observed on the Hebrew Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). One goat, known as "the Lord's goat," was sacrificed during the rituals, while the other goat, over whose head the high priest had confessed the sins of the people, was then taken into the wilderness and allowed to escape to its own fate, symbolically taking all the sins with him and giving everyone a fresh start. This goat was forever more known as the "escape goat," or "scapegoat."
It seems like everything that's wrong with the world, people attempt to lay at the feet of the Jews, and then they try to boot them out the door so that they can wipe the dust off their hands and pretend that all is now new and fresh and they can start over without the corrupting influence of those evil Hebrews.
Weird, to say the least.
