Confederacy of Dunces
Michael Moore has another casually distorted post up at his "Hate All the Rich White Men Except for Me" website, criticizing Republican congressmen for not voting in favor of the latest time-wasting and entirely photo-op, soundbite friendly apology resolution brought before Congress (thanks to Bill Clinton for firmly establishing the worthless Cult of Apology within US politics).
Republicans understand that apologizing for something that occurred over one hundred years ago is merely an uber-PC gesture, and a waste of everyone's time. Our representatives have been elected to accomplish real goals and actual progress, not to grandstand for the news media or create their own photo-ops by merely stating the obvious, or so one would hope.
But wait -- could there be more to this than meets the eye? Just what is Mr. Moore neglecting to mention? Why are the Dems tripping all over themselves to toss out fresh apologies like strings of colored beads at a Mardis Gras parade?
"I don't know why Republicans need to sign onto this thing. Why should they apologize for what Democrats did?"
Fer real. Back when lynching was an actual problem that needed to be addressed, the Republicans were attempting to pass Anti-Lynching Legislation while Democrats in the Senate fiddled, with Democratic filibusters blocking anti-lynching laws for decades. If you want to read why the Democrats are now desperately printing up apologies faster than a Columbian Cartel prints up counterfeit Franklins, just go here, where four Democratic Senators, Boyd Tackett from Arkansas, Charles Bennett from Florida, John Rankin from Mississippi and Joseph Bryson from South Carolina all protest, on the record and at length, against a proposed Anti-lynching Legislation that was put before Congress in 1948.
And let's not forget the Democrats like "Sheets" Byrd who filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Democrat "Bull" Connor who turned dogs and fire hoses on black Americans who wanted to assert the right to vote, and the anti-civil rights posse made up of the likes of Theodore Bilbo and John Bell Williams of Mississippi and Richard Russell of Georgia, to name just a few.
The Democratic Party has a sorry record when it comes to civil rights issues, but gee, they're apologizing now, which makes everything hunky-dory, right? Yea -- go Donkeys!
As the guys at Powerline so rightly point out: "The Senators doing the apologizing didn't cause anti-lynching laws not to pass, and their apology will have no effect on anything."
So now that the feel-good PC Media-Moment is over and done with, can we get back to stuff that mighty actually matter, like revamping Social Security, tightening our borders, opening up our own oil reserves for exploitation and perhaps dealing with North Korea and Iran?
Right, I didn't think so.
